Walkers are Welcome Weekend
(September)
A weekend of guided walks, led walks and events for walkers of all ages, organised by the Hebden Bridge Walker’s Action. Choose from 30 walks, from one-hour town centre strolls to all day hikes. There are pre-breakfast, late night walks, local history walks, environmental walks, architectural walks, children’s walks and French and Spanish-speaking walks.
Calderdale Reader’s and Writers’ Festival
(August / October)
A month of exciting events for both readers and writers. This includes author events, workshops, bookswaps, quizzes and more. There are lots going on for both children and adults at locations all over Calderdale including Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd.
Hebden Bridge Picture House
Hebden Bridge Picture House provides a mix of arthouse and mainstream cinema, as well as a variety of live events each year, including concerts and theatre. Hardcastle Crags and Gibson Mill
Hardcastle Crags and Gibson Mill Hebden Bridge is a beautifully wooded valley consisting of 400 acres of unspoilt woodland. In the heart of this is Gibson Mill a 19th Century cotton mill which has been restored and redeveloped to provided visitors with an interactive experience. Heptonstall Museum
The medieval town of Heptonstall sits on the hill above Hebden Bridge only ¾ of a mile walk up the cobbled Buttress which was part of the pack-horse route to Burnley or maybe take a bus ride up for those less energetic. There are two churches built on the same site with stunning views from both the Octagonal Church and the remains of the 13th century Cluniac Priory. The poetess Syliva Platt and David Harley, the infamous leader of the Cragg Vale Coiners are buried in Heptonstall.
Heptonstall Museum, Hebden Bridge, is housed in the old village grammar school. A permanent exhibition explores the changing importance of the area from prehistoric times to the present day. The new community space offers a look at the area using oral histories and photographs.

The Pennine and Calderdale Way
The town of Hebden Bridge is renowned for its walks and is the first town in the UK to acknowledge this by “Walkers are Welcome”. The Calderdale Way is approx. 50 miles and is a circular walk round the Borough of Calderdale.
The Pennine Way is 268 miles of chasing the Pennine Mountain tops along the rugged backbone of England from the Peak District, Yorkshire Dales over Hadrians Wall to the Cheviots. Amongst the finest upland walks in England.

Bronte Parsonage Museum & Haworth
Take the scenic drive from Hebden Bridge to the nearby town of Haworth a former wool manufacturing village. The main street has changed little over the years and offers an interesting variety of shops, tearooms and public houses once frequented by Branwell Bronte. The Brontes are perhaps the most famous literary family and the Haworth Parsonage was their home from 1820-1861, now the Bronte Parsonage Museum . This is a must see for fans of Wuthering Heights and you will not be disappointed.

Heritage Walks in Calderdale
Well researched guided walks aim to explain the history and fascinating features of local towns and villages. Walks are 2 hours or just over and are fairly easy walking unless otherwise stated. The walks are not suitable for those under 13 years. The summer programme is underway and the winter programme is available in September. For almost all walks booking is not essential just turn up and pay a small fee on the day. Guides can be booked for private groups for further details:

Situated in the heart of the picturesque Luddenden Valley is between Halifax and Hebden Bridge , Jerusalem Farm offers a safe haven for woodpeckers, herons, deer and profusions of insects. Eureka! The National Children's Museum, Halifax
Britain’s award winning ‘first and foremost’ hands on museum for children boasts 400 must-touch exhibits such as ‘Me and my Body’, ‘Sounds Space’, ‘Our Global Garden’. It’s all in a days play at Eureka . There is an admission charge. The museum, shop and café are open from 10am to 5pm everyday except 24-26 December.

Shibden Hall & Park, Halifax
Shibden Hall & Park has been a family home until quite recently and over the centuries expanded with its different owners and reflects the changes in taste and need. At the back is The Folk Museum which features a 17th century aisled barn with a collection of horse-drawn vehicles and displays showing the interior of blacksmith, wheelwright’s and cooper and many more conserving examples of the traditional trades and crafts of the area. There is a wide range of programmes held during the year. Also there is a café selling snacks. There is a charge into the Hall.
The grounds of Shibden Hall is now a public park with boating lake, pitch and putt, miniature railway and play area for children. The park is free.

Ogden Water Local Nature Reserve
Located outside Halifax on the A629 is a designated local nature reserve Ogden Water which comprises a 34 acre reservoir surrounded by over a 100 acres of woodland. A perfect area to have a picnic and nature activities are organized by the staff throughout the year. Most of the activities are free.
